ABOUT THE WORK

The Piedra Bugre is a dark rock formation that on the days of lower water flow comes to the surface in a narrow area of the high Uruguay River, near the Saltos del Moconá. The dividing line of the current countries of Argentina and Brazil passes through it. In the past, the stone made it easier for the Guarani tribes to travel between the two shores, but it was also a meeting place for these communities, who made it the object of celebrations and other practices, among which is the resolution of disputes, according to legend, which attributes divine properties to the place: it seems that whoever managed not to fall into the water won. When, after the first exploration of the Uruguay River, which was carried out by Fernando de Magallanes' expedition around the world, the first European visitors arrived in the area, the Guaraníes approached Piedra Bugre in search for answers that might conjure up their confusion.

Piedra Bugre, the sound piece, is the result of the application of diverse musical composition algorithms to some of the sound takes that the Orchestra of Chaos carried out during the activities of the project Sounds in Cause in this area, threatened by the industrial exploitation of natural resources.
