En este proyecto Álvaro Laiz sigue las huellas de las poblaciones paleo-siberianas que, hace 20.000 años, pasaron desde Asia a América, a través del Estrecho de Bering, convirtiéndose no solo en los primeros pobladores de América, sino en antepasados de los pueblos que habitaron con posterioridad este territorio. Un largo recorrido a través del tiempo y la genética, del devenir del hombre y su relación con el entorno en el que vive.

Naturaleza, cultura tradicional y tecnología convergen en esta exposición, que combina memoria y ciencia a través del análisis de datos relativos a la genética de las poblaciones, al mismo tiempo que pone sobre la mesa el discurso sobre los procesos migratorios actuales por todo el continente americano.

El proyecto The Edge ha sido producido en el marco de las residencias artísticas Tender Puentes del Museo Universidad de Navarra, y ha contado con apoyo científico y de consultoría para incorporar la sostenibilidad en todas sus vertientes a la realización del proyecto. Ello ha dado lugar a un proyecto paralelo denominado Beyond the Edge. La consultora Ureculture ha acompañado al artista buscando implementar el pensamiento circular en las prácticas artísticas y de museografía, al tiempo que se ocupan de medir y minimizar el impacto medioambiental del proyecto y la exposición. La iniciativa RE-FRAME impulsa la economía circular a través, entre otros elementos, de la fabricación de unos marcos que han sido producidos específicamente para las piezas de la exposición en material de desecho de celulosa.


In this project Álvaro Laiz follows the footsteps of the Paleo-Siberian populations that, 20,000 years ago, passed from Asia to America, through the Bering Strait, becoming not only the first settlers of America, but also the ancestors of the peoples that later inhabited this territory. A long journey through time and genetics, the evolution of man and his relationship with the environment in which he lives.

Nature, traditional culture and technology converge in this exhibition, which combines memory and science through the analysis of data related to the genetics of populations, while at the same time puts on the table the discourse on current migratory processes throughout the American continent.

The Edge project has been produced within the framework of the Tender Puentes artistic residencies of the Museo Universidad de Navarra and has had scientific and consulting support to incorporate sustainability in all its aspects to the realization of the project. This has given rise to a parallel project called Beyond the Edge. The consulting firm Ureculture has accompanied the artist in seeking to implement circular thinking in artistic and museographic practices, while measuring and minimizing the environmental impact of the project and the exhibition. The RE-FRAME initiative promotes the circular economy through, among other elements, the manufacture of frames that have been produced specifically for the exhibition pieces in cellulose waste material.
